Le ouïghour est une langue parlée par environ 10 millions de personnes dont 9 millions au Xinjiang, région autonome et la plus vaste province de Chine (1,6 millions de km²), située au Nord-Ouest du pays.
La langue ouïghoure appartient à la même famille que la langue turque. Son écriture est dérivée de l'alphabet arabe, introduit sous le règne des Chaghatay (11è-12è siècle), au moment où les Ouïghours se sont convertis à l'Islam.

The Uighur language is a Turkish dialect spoken by over 10 million Uighur people in Central Asia including 9 million in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region of China (1,6 millions km²), located in North-West of the country.
The current Uighur alphabet is derived from Arabic that was introduced during the Chaghatay Empire (11th-12nd century) when Uighurs were converted to Islam.
